Safaricom Lowers M-Pesa Till Charges for Businesses
Safaricom has announced new reduced tariffs for M-Pesa Pochi la Biashara and Lipa na M-Pesa Buy Goods, aimed at making digital payments more affordable for small businesses across Kenya.
Key Changes:
1. Pochi la Biashara (1st August – 31st October 2026)
Payments to Pochi merchant tills are free up to KES 200 for the next 90 days.
After that, new charges will apply based on transaction amounts.
2. Lipa na M-Pesa Buy Goods (Effective 7th August 2026)
Collections of up to KES 500 are now free (previously free only up to KES 200).
Collections above KES 500 will attract a fee of 0.55%, capped at KES 200.
3. M-Pesa Business Till Transfers (Effective 7th August 2026)
Small businesses will enjoy up to 50% lower charges when transferring money from their Till to an M-Pesa account or PayBill.
Free collections of up to KES 500 remain in place.
Safaricom says the changes are meant to support business growth, improve cash flow for traders, and align with principles of fairness, transparency and affordability.
Questions on the ground:
How much will these reductions help small traders and businesses in Likuyani and beyond?
Will more businesses shift to digital payments as a result?
