Likuyani – The race for UDA party chairmanship in Likuyani has become tense after two strong contenders emerged: King Jeshi Amira and Dennis Mulago.
King Jeshi Amira, who enjoys close ties with the area MP (an ODM MP), is now receiving the MP’s open support — a move many see as influenced by the broad-based government arrangement.
Dennis Mulago, a known die-hard UDA supporter who backed the party even during the last general election, is also vying for the same seat. Last year, the MP is said to have openly backed Mulago and the two even held a public meeting together.
Many UDA loyalists now feel betrayed, questioning why the MP has suddenly shifted support to King Jeshi Amira despite earlier indications of backing Mulago.
Questions on the ground:
Is this a genuine change due to the broad-based government, or a case of political convenience?
Should party positions in Likuyani be decided by local UDA members or by alliances with leaders from other parties?
What does this mean for ordinary UDA supporters who remained loyal even when the party was not in power nationally?
The UDA chairmanship race is still in its early stages, but the emerging divisions are already raising concerns among party members in Likuyani.
