Sifuna Meets Gachagua at Wamunyoro: Politics Is Truly a 3D Chess Game
On Tuesday, 20th October 2026, Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua hosted Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and a Linda Mwananchi delegation at his Wamunyoro residence in Nyeri.
The meeting, which also included leaders such as Boni Khalwale, George Natembeya and Cleophas Malala, has been widely interpreted as a step towards opposition cooperation ahead of 2027. Photographs and statements from both sides suggest the two camps are warming up to each other.
However, no formal coalition has been announced. Details of any working arrangement remain undisclosed.
This development raises several important questions:
Will a Gachagua–Sifuna alignment be strong enough to challenge President William Ruto in 2027?
Will other opposition figures such as Fred Matiang’i and Kalonzo Musyoka eventually join them, or will they pursue separate paths?
And how does the public process the fact that Senator Sifuna was among those who voted to impeach Gachagua in 2024?
In Kenyan politics, today’s enemy can become tomorrow’s ally. The Wamunyoro meeting is a clear reminder of that reality. What looked impossible a few months ago now appears possible — at least on the surface.
Whether this meeting marks the beginning of a serious opposition front or remains just another photo opportunity will depend on what happens next. For now, Kenyans are watching closely.
Questions on the ground:
Can Sifuna and Gachagua genuinely work together despite the 2024 impeachment?
Will Kalonzo and Matiang’i join this emerging alignment or form their own?
Is this the opposition unity that can actually defeat Ruto in 2027?
Stay informed. Stay ahead.
