Ruto Signs Tax Laws Amendment Bill into Law
President William Ruto on Friday assented to the Tax Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026, and the Kenya Revenue Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2026, at the Eldoret State Lodge in Uasin Gishu County.
The Tax Laws (Amendment) Act extends the reduction of Value Added Tax (VAT) on petroleum products from 16 per cent to 8 per cent for another 90 days. The move is aimed at cushioning Kenyans against high fuel prices.
The law also introduces reforms to excise duty on tiles, sanitary ware and glass products. The changes are expected to lower construction costs, support the housing industry and create more jobs.
On its part, the Kenya Revenue Authority (Amendment) Act strengthens KRA’s governance and financing framework. The reforms are designed to improve efficiency and enhance revenue collection without introducing new taxes.
