Likuyani/Kitale — More than one year after the announcement of the Lesseru–Kitale (B14) road upgrade, residents are still waiting for construction to begin on the Maili Tisa stretch.
The project, announced by President William Ruto and supported by MP Innocent Mugabe, is part of the Multinational Kenya–South Sudan Road Corridor under Phase 1.
Funding for the project was secured through the African Development Bank, and the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) proceeded to advertise for contractors in August 2025.
However, as of April 2026, there is no visible activity on the ground.
The project scope includes upgrading approximately 55km of road to bitumen standards, complete with drainage systems, road shoulders, and improved junctions. Once construction begins, the project is expected to take 36 months, followed by a 12-month defects liability period.
Despite these plans, the current reality remains unchanged.
Boda boda operators, traders, and daily commuters continue to face dust, potholes, and safety risks along this key transport corridor.

Key Questions Remain:
What is causing the delay between funding, tendering, and implementation?
Are there unresolved issues such as land compensation or contractor selection?
When can residents realistically expect construction to begin?
For many residents, the concern is no longer about announcements — but about delivery.
Likuyani Digest will continue to monitor this story and provide updates based on real developments on the ground.
