Lamu Women Rep Withdraws from UDA After Bitter Fallout with Governor Timamy
Lamu County Women Representative Hon. Muthoni Marubu Monicah has formally ended her engagement with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
In a strongly worded letter dated 11 August 2026 addressed to Governor Issa Abdalla Timamy (also UDA Deputy Party Leader), Marubu accused the Governor of political sabotage, ethnic exclusion and deliberate attempts to undermine her work.
She stated that after the President asked her to mobilise UDA in Lamu early this year, she spent three months conducting 42 grassroots meetings across the county and registering members — despite having been elected on an Independent ticket. She claimed Timamy neither answered nor returned her six calls and organised no grassroots mobilisation meetings of his own.
When the grassroots elections proceeded and UDA won overwhelmingly, Marubu said the Governor then sought to reverse the democratic process by pushing for a repeat of elections only in Lamu West (her political stronghold) while leaving Lamu East (his own stronghold) untouched. She described this as deliberate political sabotage.
The letter also raised concerns over public appointments, the replacement of the late Deputy Governor, the near-total collapse of Mpeketoni Hospital (which predominantly serves the Kikuyu community), and efforts to evict farmers from their land. She referenced the 2014 Mpeketoni killings and rejected claims that Kikuyus in Lamu are unlikely to vote for UDA.
Marubu declared:
“I was independently elected and had intended to join UDA ahead of 2027. That intention is hereby withdrawn. Neither I, my team nor my political allies will participate in further UDA mobilisation, grassroots elections or Party activities.”
She asked the UDA National Elections Board to deregister the aspirants she had mobilised and return them to the grassroots.
The letter was copied to Eng. Anthony Mwaura, Chairman of the UDA National Elections Board.
Stay informed. Stay ahead.
