Drama as Wamalwa Accused of Disrupting Sango Event
The BUCOE SACCO Empowerment Programme held on Friday at St. Francis Comprehensive School in Sango Ward was briefly disrupted after Lake Victoria North Water Works Development Agency CEO Joel Wamalwa allegedly entered the venue accompanied by a group of young people.
According to reports circulating online and accounts from people present at the event, the sudden entry caused disorder, with some women and other attendees being pushed in the process.
President’s Personal Assistant Farouk Kibet, who was among the guests, is reported to have confronted Wamalwa, telling him:
“Wewe Joel toa hapa vurugu na hawa vijana wako. Wacha kuangusha wamama na hawa vijana wako.”
Online reactions have been critical, with many describing the group that accompanied Wamalwa as “goons” and questioning why a serving CEO would disrupt a public empowerment programme.
Wamalwa, who is eyeing the Likuyani parliamentary seat and is known to be a supporter of Kakamega Women Representative Elsie Muhanda, has not issued a public response to the claims.
The event was hosted by Likuyani MP Innocent Mugabe and attended by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa, Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka, and other leaders.
Questions on the ground:
Why did a serving CEO enter a public event with a large group of youth in a manner that caused disruption?
Should public officers be allowed to turn development events into political confrontations?
Will security agencies investigate the reported disorder?
Likuyani Digest will continue following the matter.
Stay informed. Stay ahead.
