Barasa Under Fire for Linking Development to Politics in Kongoni
Governor Fernandes Barasa is facing sharp criticism after remarks he made in Kongoni Ward on 27th August 2026, where he blamed the area MCA for stalled projects.
The Governor said:
“Kazi yake ni kunipiga vita, ndiposa miradi hapa imekwama. Ukienda Mirembe imekwama, Nangili ilikwama. Nataka MCA kijana.”
Residents have taken issue with the statement, asking why development in Kongoni should depend on whether the MCA is politically close to the Governor or not.
Many are questioning:
Why should projects stall simply because an MCA is not a “favourite”?
Is development in Kakamega now based on political loyalty instead of need?
Are other wards where MCAs are close to the Governor receiving better attention while Kongoni suffers?
Some residents have pointed out that even in wards where MCAs are considered loyal to the Governor, visible development remains limited. Others say the Governor appears to want an MCA who will always say “yes” and call him “sir,” unlike the current one.
Critics argue that a Governor should rise above local political differences and ensure projects continue for the benefit of wananchi, regardless of who the ward representative is.
Linking stalled roads, ECDEs and other projects to political rivalry only fuels the perception that development in Kakamega is being used as a political tool.
Questions on the ground:
Should residents of Kongoni suffer because of political differences between the Governor and their MCA?
Why is development being tied to personal loyalty?
Will the Governor still deliver the promised projects in Kongoni, or will they remain stalled until a “favourite” MCA is elected?
Wananchi want services, not political battles.
Stay informed. Stay ahead.
