Barasa Rolls Out Social Protection Grants in Kongoni Ward
Governor Fernandes Barasa on Tuesday, 27th August 2026, announced that every ward in Kakamega County will receive KSh 1 million under the ongoing social protection grants programme.
Speaking while in Kongoni Ward, Likuyani Constituency, the Governor said each group will receive KSh 50,000. The grants will target women, widows, youth, and persons living with disabilities.
The programme is being rolled out across all constituencies and wards in the county as part of the administration’s effort to support vulnerable groups and boost small-scale economic activities at the grassroots.
Governor Barasa stated that the funds are meant to empower communities and help groups start or expand income-generating projects.
This follows earlier similar launches in other parts of the county, where the same structure of KSh 1 million per ward and KSh 50,000 per group has been applied.
