Gachagua Alleges Voter Suppression Plot in Olkalou: “Don’t Give Away Your IDs for Gas Cylinders and Mattresses”
Olkalou – Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has issued a strong warning to residents of Olkalou, Nyandarua County, claiming there is an alleged scheme to deny them their right to vote in the upcoming by-elections on 16th July 2026.
In a post on X, Gachagua stated:
“Reports reaching me from Olkalou are that residents are being asked to surrender their identity cards in exchange for a free gas cylinder and a GoK branded mattress. This is a scheme to deny you the opportunity and right to vote… Please don’t surrender your Identity Card to anyone.”
He urged residents to demand that the government and UDA campaigners deliver the items without taking their IDs, adding:
“Let the cowardly regime deliver even speed boats, transformers, bullet trains, water tanks, milk and potato coolers and all that has not been delivered to Olkalou since 1963… Stay firm, descendants of MauMau!”
Questions on the ground:
Are residents in Olkalou really being asked to surrender their IDs for handouts?
Will the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) investigate these claims ahead of the by-elections?
How widespread are such alleged voter manipulation tactics as we approach 2027?
The claims come at a time of heightened political activity across the country.
Likuyani Digest will monitor developments regarding the Olkalou by-elections and any related reports.
Stay informed. Stay ahead.
