Barasa Retains CoG Finance Committee Chair
Kakamega Governor Dr. Fernandes Barasa has been re-elected unopposed for the fifth consecutive time as Chairperson of the Council of Governors’ (CoG) Committee on Finance, Planning and Economic Affairs.
The election took place on Monday, 12th October 2026, during a Full Council Meeting held in Nairobi.
During the same meeting, Governor Muthomi Njuki was elected as the new Chairperson of the Council of Governors, taking over from Governor Ahmed Abdullahi of Wajir County.
The County Government of Kakamega described Barasa’s re-election as a reflection of the confidence fellow governors have in his leadership and expertise in public finance management.
Governor Barasa is expected to continue playing a key role in strengthening devolution, improving county governance and advancing development across the 47 counties.
