Barasa Ranked 3rd in National Leadership and Governance Award
Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has been recognised among the country’s leading governors, ranking third nationally in Leadership and Governance at the Africa Champions Awards International 2026.
In a statement, Barasa said the recognition reflects collective efforts to improve healthcare, expand education, upgrade roads, strengthen food security, and empower women, youth and vulnerable households across Kakamega County.
“Our focus remains on ensuring that development is inclusive, equitable and felt in all our 60 wards. This honour belongs to the people of Kakamega County. Kazi inaendelea,” he said.
The award comes months after the Infotrak CountyTrak Performance Index 2026, in which Kakamega was ranked outside the national top 25 and placed third within the Western region with a score of 49%.
While different surveys and awards use varying criteria, the latest recognition has placed Barasa among the top three governors nationally in the Leadership and Governance category.
