Barasa to Maraga: Where Will the President Be Declared?
Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has hit out at former Chief Justice David Maraga over calls to abolish the National Tallying Centre.
Speaking publicly, Barasa defended the current electoral process and questioned the logic behind removing the national centre.
“Huyu jamaa wa upinzani Maraga anataka National Tallying Centre itolewe. Mimi nataka kuuliza Maraga, sisi tunajua kwamba kura zikipigwa, tunaanzia pale polling station, inaenda kuhesabiwa, ikitoka pale inaenda kwa constituency, alafu National Tallying Centre. Sasa ukisema watoe National Tallying Centre, Rais atachaguliwa wapi?” Barasa asked.
He added that those in the Broad-Based government want the elections to be conducted strictly according to the law.
“Sisi wana Broad-Based tunataka kura ipigwe kutokana na sheria,” the Governor said.
Barasa’s remarks come amid growing political debate over electoral reforms ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Questions on the ground:
Is the call to scrap the National Tallying Centre practical?
How will this debate shape trust in the electoral process?
Will other Broad-Based leaders take a similar position?
Stay informed. Stay ahead.
